Sticky Ginger Garlic Chicken

One has to love autumn dishes, because they are such a classic crowd pleaser. Fall is all about easy oven recipes, honey, hot spices and fresh herbs. That’s why I chose to start the season with Sticky Ginger Garlic Chicken. This is basically a roasting tray filled with golden, ginger infused, honey, sticky yumminess. Needless to say that the scent alone had me drooling during the whole 30 minutes baking time and there were no leftovers whatsoever. Bonus, this recipe is so simple, hardly any prepping involved, but so tasty you’ll make it again and again. You can’t go wrong with this recipe! Did I mention that it’s an easy oven recipe but you can easily transform it into a slow-cooker recipe?

Ingredients for Sticky Ginger Garlic Chicken:

  • 8 chicken drumsticks
  • 3 tbsp. chopped ginger
  • 1 scallion
  • 5 chopped garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

 Preparation method for Sticky Ginger Garlic Chicken:

In a bowl add the ginger, garlic, honey, soy sauce, oyster sauce, five spice powder, sesame oil and mix them well together. Wash, rinse and pat dry the chicken drumsticks. Place the drumsticks in a large freezer bag and pour the marinade inside. Shake the bag well till all the marinade mixture is evenly spread on the drumsticks. Place it in the fridge for 40 minutes.

Pre-heat the oven to 190°C.

Line the chicken drumsticks in a non-stick baking dish and pour the rest of the marinade on top. Bake in the middle of the oven for about 30 minutes. From time to time, turn the drumsticks around, to ensure even baking. When ready the drumsticks will be golden brown, tender and sticky. Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the chicken drumsticks and bake for 1 more minute. Serve this delicious fall dish warm, sprinkled with freshly chopped scallions.

One thing I can say about my Sticky Ginger Garlic Chicken drumsticks: they were awesome! But you shouldn’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself.
